App privacy and local data
DiskTally app privacy — prepared 13 September 2026. Publisher: Dynamb Technologies. This policy covers the Windows app; the website and Microsoft Store have their own privacy terms.
DiskTally reads file names, paths, sizes, timestamps and filesystem metadata to analyze disks you select. Duplicate detection reads eligible local file contents to compare hashes. The app does not upload scan results or file contents and includes no account system, advertising SDK, analytics or automatic update checks.
Up to ten scan snapshots per disk root are stored in Windows application data under app.disktally.desktop/snapshots; packaged installations can redirect this location into package-local storage. Snapshots include paths and sizes. CSV exports are saved under Documents/DiskTally. Uninstalling a Store package can remove its local data; exported files may remain. Windows, Microsoft Store and cloud-sync providers can make their own network requests.
No files are automatically deleted. Recycling requires an explicit selection and confirmation. Moving files to the Recycle Bin does not immediately free disk space. Recycling a cloud-synced folder can propagate deletion to your cloud account and other devices. Restore items through the Windows Recycle Bin where available.
Support is available through the Dynamb contact page. If you send a support message or attach scan data, you choose what to share; remove personal file names and paths before sending them.
Questions people ask
Which computers does DiskTally support?
DiskTally is available from Microsoft Store for Windows 11 on x64 PCs with Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. Windows ARM64, macOS and network shares are not release-validated.
Does DiskTally need administrator access?
Ordinary scans run with standard user permissions and skip inaccessible locations. Optional NTFS Fast Scan requests administrator permission through Windows. You can decline and continue using ordinary scans.
Does moving files to the Recycle Bin free space immediately?
No. Files still occupy space until removed from the Recycle Bin. Check the staged list carefully, especially whole folders and cloud-synced content.
Why can totals differ from Windows disk usage?
DiskTally reports logical file sizes. Compression, hard links, inaccessible files and filesystem metadata can make these differ from allocated disk usage.
