Why 10MB? Who uses that limit?

Discord's free tier currently caps uploads at 10MB — it's the most common reason people need this exact size. Plenty of ticketing systems, CMS uploaders and form builders use a 10MB cap too.

How do I send a large video on Discord without Nitro?

Compress it here to under 10MB and attach it normally. For anything that won't survive 10MB (long gameplay clips, for instance), trim out the highlight first, or upload elsewhere and share the link.

Will the file come out at exactly 10MB?

It aims a few percent under — around 9.4–9.9MB for most clips. Landing exactly on the limit risks being rejected, because platforms measure size slightly differently; just-under is the size that always sends.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser using your device's own hardware video encoder (WebCodecs). This site has no upload endpoint for the tool at all — the video never leaves your device, and there is no upload wait before compression even starts.

Does compressing a video reduce quality?
