Questions people ask

Why is temperature converted differently from the other units?

Length, weight, area and volume all convert by multiplying by a fixed ratio — 1 inch is always 2.54 cm. Temperature scales instead have different zero points, so converting requires shifting by an offset as well: Celsius to Fahrenheit is (°C × 9/5) + 32, not a simple multiplication.

What is 0°C in Fahrenheit and Kelvin?

0°C is 32°F and 273.15 K — the freezing point of water at sea level. This tool's temperature conversion is checked against that fixed point, along with −40°C, which is the one temperature where Celsius and Fahrenheit read the same number (−40°F).

Which volume units does it use — US or UK?

US customary units (US cup, US pint, US gallon and so on), which are the ones most cooking and recipe conversions expect. UK imperial volumes differ slightly and are not covered.

How accurate are the conversion factors?

They use internationally agreed exact definitions where one exists — for example the inch is defined as exactly 2.54 cm and the pound as exactly 0.45359237 kg — so results are accurate to the decimal places shown, not rounded estimates.

Is my input sent anywhere?

No. Every conversion is a calculation performed in your browser's JavaScript — there is no server request involved, so the tool works even offline once the page has loaded.
