Scanned PDF to Text (OCR)
Convert a scanned PDF to editable text without uploading it: each page is rendered in your browser, cleaned up, and read by OCR right on your device, with progress shown page by page. It is built for scans — photographed agreements, photocopied notes, old records. If your PDF was made from Word or a website, it already contains its text, and our PDF to Text tool extracts that instantly and exactly instead.
- No upload — files stay on your device

Preparing Scanned PDF to Text for you…
Loading the tool into your browser. Nothing is uploaded — the work happens on your device.
Indian documents often mix scripts — pick Hindi + English for those.
Your file is read entirely on this device — it is never uploaded. The only download is the open-source Tesseract OCR engine itself (worker, core and language data), fetched once from a CDN after you click, then cached. Printed text reads reliably; handwriting mostly does not, and a blurry or skewed photo will disappoint — retaking the picture flat-on beats any setting here.
One-time download — after this the engine is cached, and your file still never leaves the device.

Blue boxes are confident words; amber ones are guesses worth checking.
How to use this tool
-
Drop the scanned PDF
The page count is read on your device. Long documents work — pages are processed one at a time so the tab stays responsive.
-
Pick the language
English, Hindi, or both for mixed documents. Leave Enhance on — scans benefit from the contrast cleanup as much as photos do.
-
Run it and collect the text
The first run fetches the OCR engine once. Results arrive with --- Page N --- separators; copy everything or download one .txt for the whole document.
Questions people ask
How do I convert a scanned PDF to editable text for free?
Drop it here, pick the language and press Extract — every page is rendered and recognized in your browser, and the combined text downloads as one .txt. No signup, no page limit, no watermark.
How do I know if my PDF is scanned or already has text?
Try selecting text in any PDF viewer — if nothing highlights, it is a scan and belongs here. If text selects, use our PDF to Text tool instead: it is instant and character-exact because no OCR is involved.
How long does a big PDF take?
Roughly a few seconds per page on a laptop, longer on a budget phone — rendering plus recognition is real work. The per-page progress bar keeps you informed, and the tab stays usable throughout.
Will the layout be preserved?
The words and their order, yes; visual layout, no — OCR output is plain text. Tables come out as lines of values, so expect to reformat them. Page boundaries are kept with clear separators.
Is my scanned document uploaded to convert it?
No. Rendering and recognition both happen inside your browser; the only download is the open-source OCR engine itself, fetched once after you click and then cached. Old deeds, medical records and agreements never leave your device.
The text came out poor — what can I do?
Scan quality decides everything. 200–300 DPI scans read well; faint photocopies and skewed pages lose accuracy, and this tool does not deskew. If the source paper is available, re-scanning it flat at higher resolution helps far more than any setting.
