Remove Audio from Video
Strip the sound out of a video in about a second — the audio track is dropped while the video stream is copied bit-for-bit, so there is zero quality loss and no long re-encode. Whether you want to mute a video before posting it, cut background chatter from a clip, or silence copyrighted music, it all happens in your browser: no upload, no watermark, any file size.

The video stream was copied bit-for-bit — zero quality loss, only the audio track is gone.
How to use this tool
-
Drop your video
MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV. The tool shows what audio track it found — codec and all — before you commit.
-
Click Remove audio
The file is rewritten without the audio track. Because the video data is copied, not re-encoded, even large files finish in seconds.
-
Preview the silence and download
Play the result right on the page to confirm it's mute, then download. The file is usually slightly smaller too — the audio's share is gone.
Questions people ask
How do I remove audio from a video?
Drop the file and click Remove audio — the tool rewrites the file with only the video track inside. It takes about a second even for big files, because nothing is re-encoded.
Does muting a video reduce its quality?
No, not even slightly. The video stream is copied bit-for-bit into the new file; only the audio track is left out. The picture is mathematically identical to the original.
Why is it instant when other video tools take minutes?
Because this is a remux, not a re-encode: the compressed video data is moved into a new container unchanged, which is just fast file copying. Re-encoding — decompressing and recompressing every frame — is what takes minutes, and it simply isn't needed here.
How do I mute a video for Instagram or WhatsApp?
Remove the audio here first, then upload the silent file. That is more reliable than trusting each app's own mute toggle — the sound is genuinely gone from the file, so no app setting or re-share can bring it back.
Will this work on my phone and in any browser?
Yes — effectively everywhere. Removing audio needs no video encoder at all, so it works even in browsers that can't re-encode video (like Firefox on Android), and it's just as fast on a phone.
Can I keep the audio as a separate file instead?
That's the opposite job — pull the sound out and keep it. Use our Extract Audio from Video tool for that; the two pages pair nicely when you need both halves.
Is my video uploaded while it's processed?
No. The rewrite happens on your device — the file never leaves it. There is no upload wait, which is most of why it feels instant.
