Questions people ask
How do I add page numbers to a PDF for free?
Drop the file here, pick a position and format, and download — no signup, no watermark, and the numbering is stamped into the file itself so it prints everywhere.
Can the numbering start from a number other than 1?
Yes. Set any starting number — useful when a cover page or an earlier volume comes before this file. "Page X of Y" continues the count, so starting at 5 on a 10-page file reads "Page 5 of 14".
Where can the numbers be placed?
Six positions: top or bottom, each in left, centre or right. Bottom centre is the convention for reports; top right suits legal bundles.
What happens on rotated or unusual page sizes?
The tool reads each page's stored rotation and true dimensions, and places the number relative to the page as a reader sees it — so a landscape scan gets its number at the visual bottom, not off the edge.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The stamping runs entirely inside your browser with an open-source PDF library served from this site; nothing is transmitted anywhere.
Will the numbers cover my content?
The stamp sits in the margin area, about a centimetre from the page edge. If your document prints edge to edge, pick the corner with the most white space and a smaller font size.
